Silica Sol (Colloidal Silica)

Description

Silica sol is a colloidal solution. Odourless, tasteless and non-toxic, with the formula SiO2·nH2O. Its colloidal particles are minute (10–20 nm) and have a relatively large specific surface area; the particles are colourless and transparent and do not affect the natural colour of the materials they cover. It has low viscosity and excellent dispersion and permeability. When the moisture evaporates, the colloid grains firmly adhere to the material surface and form silicon-oxygen bonds, making it a good adhesive.

Applications

• Cohesive agent for fireproof / refractory materials — high bonding strength, heat resistance 1500–1600 °C
• Coating industry — firm paints with anti-contamination, dustproof, anti-aging and fireproof features
• Precision casting of thin shells — higher shell strength and casting finish
• Catalyst manufacture and catalyst carrier
• Paper-making — cellophane anti-glutinous agent, photographic paper pre-treatment, cement bag anti-slip agent
• Textile sizing agent for wool and rabbit hair
• Silicon steel plate treatment, kinescope dispersing agent and floor wax anti-slip agent
